The current research interests of WATER Lab include:
The occurrence of emerging contaminants
Emerging contaminants (ECs) can refer to many different kinds of chemicals, including pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs), per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs), micro- and nano-plastics (MNPs), among others. These chemicals can have a detrimental affect on aquatic species, which may bioaccumulate up the food chain, potentially affecting human health.
Energy efficient environment and energy catalysis
Atomic catalysts (SACs and DACs) and cluster catalysts are emerging materials in environment and energy catalysis. Primarily due to their ultrahigh performances, environmental friendliness, structural/chemical robustness, and the maximum utilization of active metal sites.
Smart water quality sensors for the water treatment industry
Many industries are experiencing high costs for chemicals and labor for wastewater treatment, as their chemical oxygen demand (COD) levels were well over the limit. The use of Internet of Things (IoT) and AI technology can greatly optimize the efficiency of wastewater treatment processes.
